Active Parent Balance
Balance life with kids while achieving your fitness goal
Happy Sunday you beautiful parents.
My apologies for being a day late on this email. I am in the thick of turning my garage into a gym and it’s been some early mornings, late evenings and I completely forgot to put out our weekly email Friday. As it turned out I actually started this email last night only to have to tend to a crying/sleepless child lol.
In light of that the theme of this week’s email will revolve around my renos and how they relate to your fitness journey.
Something to think about
When the project seems SO overwhelming and I keep hitting snags, two things keep me motivated and they’re the same two things I try to help my clients see.
The vision - When things are a mess, lumber piled up, concrete broken in piles I look past what is and I see what will be. When it comes to your health/fitness don’t let yourself be overwhelmed by where you are, get a clear vision of where you are going.
Fear of the mess - Here’s the thing: Things are a mess right now. And they will stay a mess unless I work at this project every day until it’s done. If you are feeling weak, slow or heavier than you like, things won’t get better unless you are consistent with it every day until you get the results you want.
Recipe/Meal prep
These last couple weeks have been some long, busy days (early mornings/late nights) and the meals have been off. This is what I found works:
Solid, high protein, moderate carb breakfast - Breakfast sandwich with 2 eggs and about 2/3 cup egg whites. Add in veggies/meat for flavor (you will also have too much eggs for the sandwich so eat separately)
Something quick for lunch (I like to work as much as possible) - If you are moving and lifting a lot I’m actually okay with a couple slices of pizza or a wrap. For me I like the carbs for energy and the efficiency of a quick meal.
Supper - Make this a wholesome, balanced meal. Get in your veggies and of course lean meat or other protein source. You have to keep those muscles strong!
Workout
Whether you are busy doing renos or have a physical job tailor your workout to balance out your movement for the day. In my case there has been a lot of lifting and carrying concrete the last couple days which means working the biceps, legs and back. My focus would be on chest, triceps and shoulders. Throwing in some stretching/yoga is recommended as well!
