The Simplest Way To Eat For Abs (or just some fat loss)

This was supposed to come out last Friday but it didn't...here it is now.

The other day a friend spoke to me about a weight loss goal he had tried to achieve but with poor results.

The goal was to lose a pound a week for 7 weeks.

A reasonable goal.

But for him it didn't work and I'll tell you why…

As I mentioned in the last email, abs are built in the kitchen.

Lifting weights is good. Getting in your steps is good. Getting enough sleep is good too… BUT if you don’t have your nutrition dialed in you are going to miss the mark when it comes to losing inches around the waist.

What works best:

Focus on high protein and vegetables first. Foods like lean meats, eggs, high protein yogurt or cottage cheese, fish and some legumes are a great way to not only give your body the building blocks to make you stronger but also help keep you feeling fuller longer.

Pro tip: Aim for about 100g of protein per pound of goal bodyweight per day.

Vegetables like broccoli, green beans, peas, bell peppers or carrots give your body the nutrients to feel energized and operate efficiently throughout the day.

Cut out the processed foods - Rule of thumb: If it comes in a box it’s probably not good for your fitness goal. The more whole, unprocessed the food, the more likely it is to fuel your body in a way that will help you burn fat and build muscle.

Pro tip: When doing your groceries stick to the perimeter of the grocery store where the fruit, veggies, meat and dairy are. Also, make a list before you go and stick to it!

Stop when hunger is gone - The beautiful thing about eating whole foods is it makes it SO much easier to stop eating when the hunger is gone. Eat slowly to give your stomach time to send your brain the signal and try to not eat while watching TV.

Pro tip: Use a smaller plate to give your brain a visual of more food than you really have. Brian Wasnick’s book Mindless Eating goes into more detail but it’s something our family has been doing for years and it works great.

That’s all for now. Catch you in the next one.
