How Much Is Enough?

I'll show you what you need for baseline, lasting health...

Recently I have been reflecting on how much effort is required to improve my overall health and fitness.

While I have always said that doing something is better than nothing and it is crazy important to be consistent I also believe that there needs to be a level of discomfort in what you are doing in order to grow.

If you only read easy books, you will only know easy concepts. If you only lift light weights you will only get so strong and if you don’t push the discomfort to get up and move throughout the day most likely your body will reflect that over time.

Don’t just take my word for it…. According to the CDC, adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week, such as brisk walking 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week and 2 days of muscle-strengthening activity each week. I would recommend total body workouts if you are only training twice per week though.

If that seems like a lot for you don’t stress. Start slow and work your way up BUT at the very least that needs to be your baseline to basic health. As that becomes your baseline add more to it:

  • Lift heavier weights and maybe train a 3rd or 4th time per week.

  • Mix in some high-intensity training to improve your cardio conditioning

I will leave you with this bit of homework - Do a little exercise audit. Are you doing the minimum? What can you do to do more?

If you are struggling to make the minimum or want to get beyond what you are training now hit that reply button and let me know. Pretty sure I can help you reach your fitness goal.
