Glitter, some cardio and something the navy taught me.

Active Parent Balance
Balance life with kids while achieving your fitness goal

This week’s video - How I stay on track with my goals (despite busy life with kids)

Something to think about

The goal you want to achieve won’t happen by accident and it certainly won’t happen if you do nothing. To Make that dream a reality you have to live each day with intention and focus. It don’t have to be perfect but an effort must be made.

Recipe/Meal prep

Concurrent activity - this is the one thing the navy taught me that has significantly improved my efficiency when meal prepping or cooking meals in general.

If you have never heard the term before it basically means to do something while other things are being done.

This is not the same as multi-tasking which is proven to be less effective.

A rough example of concurrent activity would be this:
For a week of food you want to cook chicken breasts, 1 cup of rice, hard boil 6 eggs, and chop up a tone of veggies.
1. Chicken in a pan and into the oven at 450f (or whatever you like)
2. Eggs in one pot
3. Water into egg pot, Water into rice pot. Pots onto stove.
4. Start chopping veggies
5. Rice water boils - rice into water
6. Egg water boils for 2 min. Heat off, let sit for 10 min
7. Finish chopping veggies.
8. Rice done.
9. Put rice, eggs and veggies into the Tupperware and into the fridge.
10. Do dishes
11. Chicken out of the oven and into the fridge.

Without getting too detailed with timings you can see that I started with the task that required the most time but least amount of hands on work and went from there. Then the next 2 tasks that required maybe not a ton of time and little hand on (eggs and rice) followed by the veggies which were all hands on. Keep that formula in mind the next time you prep your food or make a meal and you will see how quick and easy it can be.

Workout

In case you don’t hate cardio…. you might after this (but it’s been shown to be insanely good for your health)

4 minutes of running as hard as you can followed by 3 minutes of jogging.

Do that for 4 rounds.

Please don’t hate me!
